The walk
From the Iffigenalp bus stop beside the Berghaus Iffigenalp, the path climbs the Iffigtal by Alp Groppi to the Iffigsee, a lake at 2,065 m in the Gelten-Iffigen nature reserve that can be reached only on foot. Return the same way.
It is 8.1 km there and back with 504 m of ascent; allow about 3¾ hours. Lenk-Simmental Tourismus gives its tour Iffigenalp to the Iffigsee and back as 7.6 km, 3 h 05 and 523 m of ascent and descent, easy ('leicht') and technically not very demanding, with a highest point of 2,096 m; the board's path-status sheet of 31 August 2026 lists the path as T2, a mountain hiking trail, and open. The grade is Moderate on our count.
The tourist board's walkers' rules ask walkers to keep dogs on a short lead, to go well round animals, never to touch calves or cows, to pass gates slowly and close them where needed, and to stay on the marked paths. The tourist board's walking-information page says that snow can fall at higher altitudes and that walking plans and equipment should allow for it; its sheet of 31 August also asks walkers to expect ice and slipping on the paths and to ask the tourist office about the passability of individual paths.
AFA Bus line 282 runs between Lenk and Iffigenalp; its 2026 summer timetable runs from 9 May to 11 October 2026 and in summer the tourist board recommends reserving the bus by 17:00 the day before, and the Berghaus Iffigenalp gives 11 October 2026, 17:00, as its last day of the season. The tourist board says the road to Iffigenalp is closed in winter and gives no date for it, and no dates for 2027 were found. The tourist board's page on the lake says parking at Iffigenalp is limited, and its travel page says the road is one-way at set times from Hubelmatte in summer. Look up the timetable before you go.
