AllTrails or Global Adventurer?
An AllTrails alternative that costs less and works with no signal
AllTrails is the biggest trail app there is, built on reviews, photos and conditions from the people who walk the trails. Global Adventurer is smaller and works differently: most of it is free, everything costs £9.99 a year, and it plans and follows routes on the phone with no signal and no account to make. This page sets the two side by side so you can pick the one that suits how you walk.
Choose AllTrails if
- You want to read what other walkers say about a trail, with their photos and the conditions, before you set out. That community is what AllTrails is built on, and we do not have trail reviews.
- You walk in places where we have few routes. AllTrails has far more trails, in far more countries. Ours are the world’s most famous long-distance trails, with walks, rides and paddles that are strongest in the UK and Europe.
Choose Global Adventurer if
- You would rather pay £9.99 a year, or £49.99 once, than £35.99 a year.
- You want to plan a route when there is no signal. The planner runs on the phone itself, on iPhone and on Android, using map data you download first.
- You do not want to make an account. There is nothing to sign in to.
- You walk the hills and want them ticked off: Munros, Wainwrights, Corbetts, Nuttalls and more, bagged when you walk over the summit (part of Pro).
- You paddle as well as walk: canoe, kayak and paddleboard routes, with tide times and the Apple Watch recording the trip.
- You use an Apple Watch, a Garmin or a Wahoo: the Apple Watch app is free, and sending routes to Garmin and Wahoo is part of Pro.
