The walk
From the terminus of tram D at Nußdorf the way follows footways and residential streets to the Danube side and Kahlenbergerdorf, then climbs the Nasenweg, a stepped path with lookouts, to the Leopoldsberg. From the Leopoldsberg it passes the Kosakendenkmal and follows the Höhenstraße to the Josefinenhütte and on to the Kahlenberg, with the terrace and the view over Vienna. The way down is the Kahlenberger Straße, the Unterer Weisleitenweg through the vineyards and the Waldbachsteig into Kahlenbergerdorf, then the flat way back to Nußdorf.
It is 10.2 km round with 316 m of ascent; allow about 3½ hours. The grade is Moderate: stone steps on the Nasenweg and a steady climb, on paved and unpaved paths and roads. The city of Vienna lists the same places in the same order for its Stadtwanderweg 1a, which it gives as 11 km and 3 to 4 hours.
The city gives the Leopoldsberg as 425 m and the Kahlenberg as 484 m. Its pages for the walk list no closure. Its page on the city walking trails asks visitors to follow the rules for them and says that smoking and open fire are banned in the forest until further notice, and grilling at the grill sites. The Josefinenhütte is the stamp point of the city's walking pass.
Tram D ends at Nußdorf, Beethovengang, and the S40 stops at Wien Nußdorf station about 400 m away; no car park is mapped at the start.
