The walk
The walk starts from the car park on the A896 in Glen Torridon, just west of the bridge over the Allt a' Choire Dhuibh Mhòir. A well made stalkers' path climbs north into Coire Dubh Mòr, the gap between Liathach and Beinn Eighe, and crosses the burn on large stepping stones. Past some reedy lochans it reaches a junction at a large cairn and takes the right-hand path, which traverses round the foot of Sàil Mhòr into Coire Mhic Fhearchair. A final climb beside a waterfall leads to the loch below the Triple Buttress. The return is the same way.
It is 15.0 km with 516 m of ascent; allow about 5 hours. The grade is Moderate: a long walk on a good, rocky path.
The path heads into wild, exposed country, so take hill clothing and a map. The stepping stones can be hard to cross in spate. The three great buttresses rise straight from the far side of the loch. This is National Trust for Scotland and NatureScot land, with no stalking restrictions.
The car park is beside the A896 in Glen Torridon. There is no station nearby.
