The walk
From the naturum at the main entrance, follow the trail Kävsjön runt round the whole of Kävsjön, a lake where many birds nest. The park page says the way runs on boardwalks and on uneven forest paths with many roots, through open pine forest and dense spruce, with side paths to several bird towers over the lake and the surrounding fens and, on the east side, a short stretch out onto the high bog itself. Rest areas are spread along the way. Store Mosse is the largest bog area in southern Sweden: the peat has been growing for at least 8,000 years, and wooded sand dunes called rocknar form islands and ridges in the open mire.
It is 12.4 km round, practically flat (the whole walk lies within about 10 m of height); allow 3 to 4 hours, as the park does. The grade is Moderate because of the length and the roots; there is no climbing. The trail can be walked all year.
The trail often runs beside the bird sanctuary, which you may not enter from 1 March to 15 August; it is marked with yellow signs. Dogs must be on a lead, and the park bans lighting fires and grilling even at the marked places. Tents are allowed only at marked places, drones may not take off or land in the park, and you may not pick plants, mosses or lichens.
Parking at the naturum is free as long as you park correctly, and entry to the naturum is free. The park's page says bus line 242 between Värnamo and Gnosjö stops at Store Mosse nationalpark near the main entrance; for those coming by train it says to change to the Kust till kust line, which runs right across the park, and get off at Värnamo or Gnosjö to go on by bus.
