The walk

From the car park at Kåseberga, walk down through the village to the harbour and take the Skåneleden's path up the hill. It leads out onto Kåsebergaåsen, the ridge above the sea, to Ales stenar: 59 standing stones set in the shape of a ship, which the county board calls the largest ship setting in Sweden and thinks was probably raised 1,000 to 1,500 years ago. Cattle graze the ridge. Go on west along the Skåneleden on the cliff top, with the sea to the south, for about a kilometre, then turn inland on a farm track north to Kasevägen and follow it east back to Kåseberga.

It is 4.1 km round with 41 m of ascent; allow about 1½ hours with time at the stones. The grade is Easy: a short walk on footpaths, grass paths and tracks, almost flat after the climb from the harbour.

The ridge ends in a steep cliff, about 30 m above the plain behind it, according to the county board, which asks visitors to keep away from the cliff edges and to show consideration for the grazing animals when they go into the pasture. The county board's Swedish page bans fires outside designated places and its English text bans them anywhere but the beach; caravans and camper vans may not be parked up or used for camping. Hang-gliding and paragliding are restricted in the area. The Skåneleden goes on west for many kilometres, round the Kabusa rifle range; this walk turns inland about a kilometre west of the stones.

The Kåseberga car park is marked as paid on the map, and the county board's page says it has a toilet and a bus stop; there is another bus stop on Östra Kustvägen. The page names no bus line.
