The walk

The walk starts at the car park at Sychpant picnic site, on the side of the Gwaun valley. A path leads east along the valley side to the Gwaun Valley Waterfall viewpoint, then climbs through woods and fields on the north side and out onto open ground to the broad, rocky summit of Mynydd Caregog, 311 m. From the top the views take in Dinas Island and Cardigan Bay, and on a very clear day the Wicklow Hills in Ireland. The way down follows tracks and paths back to the picnic site.

It is 8.4 km with 282 m of ascent; allow about 3 hours. The grade is Moderate: the National Park describes the walk as rugged moorland and steep hill walking.

The top of the hill is open moorland, boggy in places, and the paths are hard to follow in mist. Wear boots, keep dogs under close control, and expect livestock in the fields. A short stretch is on a minor road. The Sychpant car park is marked free in OpenStreetMap.

The National Park lists no public transport for this walk.
