The walk
The walk starts from the small car park in Mynachlog-ddu. Follow the lane north-east out of the village and take the path that climbs north-west over the open moor to the crags of Carn Menyn, one of the Preseli outcrops named as a source of the Stonehenge bluestones. Join the old ridge track, the Golden Road, and follow it west to Bedd Arthur, a ring of small standing stones below the tor of Carn Bica. From there a path drops south off the ridge to the road. Turn left along the road, past the memorial stone to the poet Waldo Williams, back to the village.
It is 8.1 km with 235 m of ascent; allow about 2¾ hours. The grade is Easy.
The paths on the open hill are not waymarked, and the moor is rugged and boggy in places: keep to the trodden paths, and take a map and compass, because the weather changes quickly. Sheep and ponies graze the hill, so keep dogs under close control. About a third of the walk is on quiet roads.
Parking in the village is free but limited. Bus 345 serves Mynachlog-ddu.
