Burg-Reuland und das Ourtal von oben

From the car park in Burg-Reuland, follow the walking-network signs for junctions 44, 49, 33, 12, 32, 42, 43, 47, 31, 30, 4, 3 and 1 back to 44. The way starts east on the old railway line 47, now a path, beside the Our, with the white houses of Steffeshausen across the river. It climbs to a hilltop for the view, drops to the meadows by the Irmisch brook and the Our, and climbs again to the ridge north of the valley, where a hiking shelter stands on its own. From there the path goes steeply and quickly down to Burg-Reuland and the ruins of its castle.

It is 13.2 km round with 314 m of ascent; allow about 4 hours. The grade is Moderate: old railway path, field tracks and lanes, with two long climbs and a steep last descent.

From October to the end of January, hunts can close forest paths in the East Cantons on set days: the walking planner on ostbelgien.eu shows closures by date, and signs at the forest edge must be obeyed.

The tourist agency gives the car park in the village centre as the start. The nearest railway station is Gouvy, about 13 km away.
