The walk
Ride the T-bane to Frognerseteren, the end of the line, and walk north-east through forest to Frønsvollen, where the map shows a cabin. From there the path turns back south over the forest ridge to Fuglemyra, where DNT Oslo og Omegn's Fuglemyrhytta stands, and on to the top of Vettakollen, 419 m on OpenStreetMap. Visit Oslo describes Vettakollen as a top between Holmenkollen and Sognsvann with a view over Oslo, a few minutes from the nearest T-bane station. From the top the way drops through the houses of Vettakollen to the T-bane stop of that name.
It is 6.1 km one way with 162 m of ascent and about 434 m of descent by our height data, so it is a descending walk; allow about 2¼ hours. DNT Oslo og Omegn's own route on ut.no from Frognerseteren by Vettakollen and Fuglemyrhytta to Vettakollen station gives 6.7 km, about 3 hours and 127 m of ascent, rates it medium demanding and gives April to November as its season. The grade of our line is Easy: forest paths and tracks, with 65% on path, 20% on track and 15% on road.
DNT Oslo og Omegn's page for Fuglemyrhytta says the walk in to the hut goes through old forest not cultivated for about a hundred years, with views of Nesodden and the Oslofjord from the hut, and gives the shortest way in as from Skådalen T-bane station on a blue-marked path. It is an overnight hut that is booked as a whole, and the page says day visits are not allowed because of the number of visitors; others may sit on the veranda and enjoy the view. Dogs are not allowed inside and the hut is a no-fire area outside.
It is a linear walk between two stops on the same T-bane line: Visit Oslo's listing gives T-bane 1 (Frognerseteren) to Vettakollen, so you ride up and ride back down from the other end. Frognerseteren stands at about 470 m and the walk ends at Vettakollen at about 200 m.
