The walk

Start at Cal Pal in La Cortinada and follow the river path (marked La Ruta del Ferro on the map) and the Camí Ral south down the Valira del Nord valley to Sornàs, between walls built of stone with no mortar. Past the village wash house a path climbs to the Planes de Sornàs, where a panel stands at about 1,540 m beyond the sheepfolds. Turn left there and go down through the forest on the GR11 markers back to La Cortinada.

It is 4.7 km round with 269 m of ascent (Visit Andorra gives 4.7 km and +283 m); allow about 2 hours. The grade is Easy, as Visit Andorra rates it: a short, easy trail that is ideal for the whole family, with about a kilometre of steady climb and about a fifth of the way on village streets.

Visit Andorra advises routes above 1,700 m between the end of June and the end of September; this walk stays below 1,600 m, and its page gives May to October as the season if weather and terrain allow. Dry stone walls hold up with nothing but gravity and the weight of the stones, so keep to the paths and leave the walls as they are.

No car park is mapped at the start. The Govern's September 2026 bus booklet lists line L6 from Andorra la Vella to La Cortinada, ending at the Bordes del Riu stop about 350 m south of Cal Pal (timetables at bus.ad).
