The walk
From the main car park at Bryansford, the black-waymarked Mountain Trail leads out into the forest, makes a long loop on forest tracks and paths, and comes back to the car park. It is signposted from the information board there.
It is 8.7 km round with 242 m of ascent; allow about 2¾ hours. The grade is Easy: forest tracks for three quarters of the way, with paths on the rest and a gentle climb to the high point of the walk at about 230 m. The Forest Service gives the trail as 5.5 miles (8.8 km); the Drinns Trail adds three miles to it.
Tollymore is a working forest park: keep to the waymarked trail, expect forestry traffic and the occasional diversion, and note that the park can close for short spells in severe winter weather such as heavy snow or strong winds. Squirrel pox, which is fatal to red squirrels, has been confirmed in the park.
Cars pay £5 a day to enter (2026/27 Forest Service charges); pedestrians are generally not charged.
