The walk

From Feynan Ecolodge (فينان) take the path north-east up the lower end of Wadi Dana, which RSCN calls the Wadi Dana sampler. The way starts in the open, desert-like ground of the reserve, and as it goes in the valley turns greener, with tall peaks on both sides. RSCN says it passes Bedouin families' goat-hair tents and natural springs, and you may see some of the reserve's birds. Turn round at the end of the mapped path, 3.3 km from the lodge, and come back the same way.

It is 6.6 km there and back with 112 m of ascent; allow 2 to 3 hours (RSCN gives 3 to 4 hours for 6 to 7 km). The grade is Easy: a clear path along the valley floor, rising gently.

The path runs along the floor of a wadi: do not go in when rain is forecast in the mountains above. The valley is hot and has little shade, so carry plenty of water and a hat. People live and herd goats along the way: dress modestly and ask before photographing anyone.

RSCN lists the walk as open all year, guided or self-guided, for up to 20 people. The lodge's pages speak of guests signing up at the front desk and say nothing about other visitors, so contact the lodge before you go. The lodge is 8 km of unpaved track from the nearest paved road; it recommends 4x4 or a high-clearance vehicle, or its transfer from the Reception Centre outside Qurayqura, 14.50 JD per car of up to four people.
