The trail
The Saints' Road on the Dingle Peninsula, 18 km from the beach at Ventry (Ceann Trá) to An Baile Breac at the foot of Mount Brandon, on the old pilgrimage to St Brendan's mountain. It winds between fuchsia hedges and stone walls, over a single hill, past Gallarus Oratory, a dry-stone chapel that has stayed watertight for well over a thousand years, and the Romanesque church at Kilmalkedar with its ogham stone and sundial. The traditional pilgrimage went on to the summit; the waymarked route stops at An Baile Breac, and the mountain, with its cliffs and sudden mist, is climbed at your own risk.

Paths change, and the weather decides the day. The line comes from the source named under the map and the heights from a terrain model, so treat the figures as a guide. Check for diversions before you go, take a map, check the forecast, and turn back if it isn't right.
