The walk

From the car park in Vradeto, one of the highest villages of Zagori, follow the track and then the path west across open limestone pasture of juniper and grey rock to the viewpoint at Beloi. The ground ends at a sheer edge, and the Vikos Gorge opens far below, with the cliffs of the far side and the slopes of Mount Tymphe beyond. Return the same way.

It is 4.8 km there and back with 122 m of ascent; allow about 1½ hours. The grade is Easy: a broad track and a stony path, nearly level.

There is no railing at the viewpoint, so keep well back from the edge, especially in wind, and hold on to children. The pasture has no shade and no water. Early morning and evening light suit the gorge best, and the walk is quiet compared with the gorge floor.

Vradeto is reached by a mountain road from Kapesovo, or on foot up the old stone stairway known as the Skala Vradetou. There is a free car park at the edge of the village.
