The walk

The walk starts from the car park in the centre of Ullapool. It follows Market Street east to the A835, then the main road north for a few minutes to Broom Park, where a gate marks the start of the Ullapool Hill paths. The path climbs past benches with views over the town, to a view indicator and a junction. From a bench higher up, red waymarkers lead up the open ridge to the small cairn on Meall Mòr. The way down returns to the bench, then follows a white-marked path through scattered trees, with views up Loch Broom, and through a plantation to a track by a mast. Lanes lead down through the houses of the Braes of Ullapool to the A835, and the pavement leads back into the town.

It is 9.3 km with 340 m of ascent; allow about 3¼ hours. The grade is Moderate: good paths, steep in sections and muddy after rain.

The summit, at 270 m, looks down Loch Broom and north to Loch Achall. The last third of the walk is on lanes and pavements, beside the busy A835 for part of the way.

The car park charges. There is no station nearby.
