The walk
The walk starts from the car park at the end of the minor road at Incheril, by Kinlochewe. A path heads through the trees past a cemetery and follows the broad Kinlochewe River to the shore of Loch Maree, then crosses the Abhainn an Fhasaigh by a bridge. It climbs towards Gleann Bianasdail and up to the col west of Meall Each, rounds the foot of Sgùrr Dubh into the grassy bowl of Coire na Sleaghaich, and climbs to the ridge by a group of lochans. A steep, eroded climb leads to the trig point, and the true summit cairn is a short way further north. The return is the same way.
It is 19.0 km with 1,042 m of ascent; allow about 8 hours. The grade is Strenuous: a long, tough walk with steep, rough ground and bog.
The climb above the lochans is steep and eroded, and the summit ridge is exposed; navigation needs care in mist. Letterewe Estate stalks deer from the end of August to 20 October, but says the normal route up Slioch from Kinlochewe is always fine. The view back over Loch Maree to the Beinn Eighe range is superb.
Parking is free. There is no station nearby.
