The walk
The walk starts from the National Trust for Scotland car park near Braemore Junction, at the Gateway to Nature Centre. A path runs down beside the Abhainn Droma through the pinewoods to the Victorian suspension bridge at the narrowest point of the gorge. Across the bridge a path leads to a metal viewing platform jutting out over the gorge. The route then recrosses the bridge and follows the edge of the gorge downstream, past another viewing area, and loops through the woods above it before returning to the bridge and the car park.
It is 3.7 km with 137 m of ascent; allow about 1¼ hours. The grade is Easy: short, on clear paths, steep in sections.
The suspension bridge takes no more than six people at a time, and the sides of the gorge are unstable, so stay on the paths. From the bridge the Falls of Measach plunge into the gorge, a mile-long slot cut by glacial meltwater. The Trust closes the bridge from 5 to 7 October 2026 for maintenance checks.
The car park charges and is locked at 5 pm. There is no station nearby.
