The walk
From the car park at Verdens Ende, at the southern tip of the island of Tjøme, a footway leads south past the visitor centre of Færder national park to the harbour by the cape, and the same way back. The park's page says tourists have come here since the 1930s and calls the lighthouse, Vippefyret, the symbol of Tjøme. The walk does not go out onto the rocks of the cape itself, where OpenStreetMap maps rough rock paths. Back at the car park it sets off west by tracks and a road to Moutmarka, where the Kyststien, the marked coast path, runs south to Skåetangen. There is a viewpoint at Skåetangen, bunkers and trenches are mapped among the bare rocks, and the park's sign marks a cultural heritage site. The walk then goes back north on the coast path, a little past the junction, before returning by the same tracks and road to the car park.
It is 3.7 km in all, as two out-and-back walks from the car park, with 19 m of ascent; allow about an hour. The grade is Easy: the ground is flat, though the coast path crosses bare rock and pebble beaches. The park's sign for Moutmarka says a stroll along the coastal path can be recommended, and the park's page encourages walking on its marked coast paths, including the one at Moutmarka.
Dogs must be kept on a lead in the park from 1 April to 15 October, and the park says grazing animals are out in spring and summer and until about 15 October. Fires are allowed only at prepared fire places or on sand or gravel without vegetation, never on bare rock, and there is a general fire ban in woods and outfield from 15 April to 15 September. Tents are banned in Moutmarka, bikes and horses are allowed only on roads and trails approved for them, and the pebbles on the beaches must not be moved. In the park's seabird zones (zone B), selected areas where seabirds nest, travel on foot is banned from 15 April to 15 July. None of these zones is on this walk: the park's sign marks Moutmarka as zone C, and none shows near the walk on Miljødirektoratet's map of areas with no-entry periods, which the park links to.
The car park at Verdens Ende is marked as paid on the map. The park's visitor centre is at Helgerødveien 590.
