The walk
From the Panorama Park car park in Deep Cove, walk north up Panorama Drive to the start of the Baden-Powell Trail. The trail climbs into the forest, then turns east and rises and falls over roots and rock, crossing Gavles Creek and smaller streams on bridges and boardwalks; ignore the bike trails that cross it. Near the end a short spur leads right onto the bare top of Quarry Rock, above Indian Arm, with views over Deep Cove and Belcarra. Return the same way.
It is 4.1 km there and back with 112 m of ascent; allow about 1½ hours. The grade is Easy: short, but on roots, rock and stairs, with constant small climbs and drops.
Roots, rocks and bridges are slippery when wet, and the edge of Quarry Rock drops steeply, so keep children close. Mobile signal is patchy; numbered orange emergency markers on the trees help rescuers find callers. Stay on the main trail: the lower access paths cross private marina land.
Parking at Panorama Park costs $3 an hour, 8 am to 6 pm, from 1 March to 31 October, with a three-hour limit; the small car park fills early on sunny weekends. By bus, take the SeaBus to Lonsdale Quay, then bus 239 to Phibbs Exchange and bus 212 to Deep Cove.
