The walk
From the top station of the Patscherkofelbahn above Igls, the path heads east along the slopes of the Patscherkofel at about 2,000 m. It winds in and out of stone pine woods along the tree line, past the Boscheben hut, with the Inn valley far below and the Karwendel and Nordkette across it. After gentle ups and downs it reaches the Tulfein Alm, where the Glungezerbahn goes down to Tulfes.
It is 7.5 km one way with 205 m of ascent and 131 m of descent; allow about 2½ hours. The grade is Easy: a well-kept path with gentle slopes at high altitude.
The path is open to the weather, though the trees give some shelter. It is a summer path; snow covers it from late autumn. There are huts at Boscheben and the Tulfein Alm.
The Patscherkofelbahn starts in Igls, reached by bus or tram from Innsbruck. The Glungezerbahn comes down at Tulfes, and a round ticket includes the bus back to Igls.
