The walk
From the Via dei Fossi car park in San Quirico d'Orcia, lanes and white roads lead south over the bare clay hills of the Val d'Orcia to the hamlet of Vignoni Alto on its hill, and down to Bagno Vignoni, whose square is a great stone pool of hot spring water. The way back follows the town's path 1 north across the farmland to San Quirico, past the Horti Leonini garden.
It is 12.7 km round with 344 m of ascent; allow about 4 hours. The grade is Moderate: white roads, field tracks and lanes, with gentle climbs.
San Quirico's tourist office lists 17 numbered paths round the town, among them path 1, Bagno Vignoni to San Quirico, 6.5 km and 2 hours. Bagno Vignoni's square, the Piazza delle Sorgenti, is a pool of thermal water fed by the springs; San Quirico has its Collegiata church and the Horti Leonini garden.
The car park in Via dei Fossi is at the edge of the old town, by the Collegiata church. The tourist office is in Via Dante Alighieri.
