The walk
Ladestien runs round the Lade peninsula on the shore of the Trondheimsfjord. This walk starts at the Strandveikaia bus stop by Ladehammeren, at the west end, and goes by Ormen Langes vei and Ladehammerveien past the Ladehammeren hill to Korsvika, a bathing place with small coves of sand and stone (Trondheim kommune). From Korsvika it follows Ladestien along the north shore of the peninsula, past Ringvebukta and the Sponhuset café, and down its east side to Rotvollfjæra. Visit Trondheim says old courtyards, historic churches and several bathing spots lie along the way, and names Ladekaia and the Sponhuset café as places to stop.
Our line is 6.8 km one way with 93 m of ascent and 93 m of descent; allow about 2 hours. The first 1.3 km, from the bus stop to Korsvika, goes by Ormen Langes vei and Ladehammerveien, streets with houses beside them, and some short paths; from Korsvika most of the line is on Ladestien, a footpath along the shore (OpenStreetMap). Visit Trondheim gives 8 km from Ladehammeren to Rotvollfjæra, 2 to 3 hours, and up to 10 km one way in all; Trondhjems Turistforening's own route on ut.no, which has the Speaker Pipe (Talerøret) on the Ladehammeren shore, a few hundred metres from our start, as its first map point, gives 7.5 km and about 2 hours and calls the terrain easy. The grade is Easy: a shore path with a few short rises, reaching about 47 m above the fjord at its highest by our height data.
Visit Trondheim says the path is only partly suitable for wheelchairs, because some sections have steep slopes and uneven surfaces; Trondheim kommune lists the stretch from Sponhuset to Grilstad among its paths adapted for wheelchairs and prams. Visit Trondheim calls Ladestien perhaps the most popular hiking trail in Trondheim, so expect company on a fine day.
It is a linear walk. AtB's timetable for bus 20 (valid from 10 August 2026) has it calling at Strandveikaia on the way from Prinsens gate towards Grillstad and at Rotvoll on the way back to the centre; Trondheim kommune names Rotvoll as the nearest bus stop to Rotvollfjæra, and the Rotvoll stops are about 550 m from the end of our line (OpenStreetMap). Visit Trondheim says to get off at Strandveikaia, turn left on Ormen Langes vei and follow the road along the water to the start of the path, and to come back by bus 20 from Rotvollfjæra; you can also join the path at Korsvika, where Trondheim kommune says there is a bathing place and parking at the end of Korsvik allé.
