The walk
From the car park by Naturum Abisko, walk west past STF Abisko Turiststation to the river Abiskojåkka (Abiskoeatnu), where Kungsleden passes under the E10 in a decorated tunnel. Cross the narrow passage over the stream and follow the boardwalk along the west bank, looking down into the canyon cut through layers of schist and dolomite. Further downstream a footbridge crosses to the east side. From there paths lead east to the gravel road and down to the shore of Torneträsk, and the road brings you back to the naturum.
It is 3.3 km round with 56 m of ascent; allow about an hour. The grade is Easy: boardwalks, gravel paths and a quiet road.
The canyon walls are steep and high; the boardwalk has railings, but the gravel slope near the start has none. In Abisko National Park dogs are allowed only on a lead, on roads and marked trails. The Abiskojåkka delta, beside the shore, is a bird sanctuary with no entry from 1 May to 31 July; this walk keeps out of it. The naturum is closed until 1 December 2026, though the outdoor information is there all the time.
STF lets its guests park free by the naturum. Abisko Turist station on the Kiruna to Narvik railway is a few minutes' walk away, and a seasonal bus runs from Kiruna.
