The walk

From the Pooh car park on Chuck Hatch Lane the walk goes past the metal gate at the back of the car park and down a wide path signed to Pooh Bridge, through Posingford Wood. A long carved bench stands about 250 m down, and the bridge is a little further on, where the bridleway crosses a stream. The return is the same way, uphill.

It is 1.6 km with 50 m of ascent; allow about half an hour. The grade is Easy: a well-made track, downhill out and uphill back.

This is the bridge of the Poohsticks game in A. A. Milne's stories. It was called Posingford Bridge; it was restored in the late 1970s, reopened by Christopher Milne, and replaced in 1999. Bring your own sticks, because visitors have stripped the trees near the bridge. The track is well made and is seldom very muddy. The bridleway beyond the bridge goes on towards Hartfield, about 40 minutes away on foot.

The car park lies just off the B2026 south of Hartfield. It charges a modest fee and is not run by the Ashdown Forest Conservators. There is no station near; bus 291 serves Hartfield from East Grinstead and Tunbridge Wells.
