The walk
From the car park at Delamont Country Park, paths and tracks wind through the woods and fields of the park south and east of the car park, then back north through the woods to the start. The park lies on the shore of Strangford Lough, and Killyleagh village is a mile or so to the north.
It is 3.8 km round with 72 m of ascent; allow about 1 hour. The grade is Easy: paths and tracks in the park, with a little road, all gentle. It is a good short walk for children.
Newry, Mourne and Down District Council runs Delamont as one of its four main parks, with a vehicle charge and permit system: it charges for cars at the manned car park office (9am to 5pm daily) and not for people on foot or on a bicycle. Park opening hours are 9am to 6pm in March and October, 8pm in April and September, 9pm from May to August and 5pm from November to February.
