The walk
From the car park at the end of the Magheramore Road, the surfaced road climbs through Banagher Glen Nature Reserve beside the Owenrigh River, then up the valley to the dam of the Altnaheglish Reservoir. The way back is the same road.
It is 7.1 km out and back with 165 m of ascent; allow about 2¼ hours. The grade is Easy: a surfaced road all the way, with some very steep sections. Visorando measures the out-and-back at about 6.2 km.
The reserve is looked after by the Northern Ireland Environment Agency. Keep dogs under close control. Forest tracks in the surrounding Banagher Forest may be diverted or closed from time to time.
nidirect lists no charge for admission or parking. Banagher Old Church, a separate stop, is about a mile away on Carnabane Road.
