The walk
From the car park by Koča pri izviru Soče, the trail follows the young river down past the Mlinarica gorge and crosses to its right bank to reach the church of Our Lady of Loreto and Na Logu, the centre of Trenta, where Dom Trenta houses the national park's information centre. It goes on down the valley through meadows and woods, crossing the river again and again on footbridges, past the Small Soča Gorge to Soča village and along the Great Soča Gorge. The trail ends at Kršovec, at the edge of the park, where Bovec's own paths lead on into the town.
It is 23.3 km one way with 250 m of ascent and 727 m of descent; allow about 7 hours. The grade is Hard for its length: the paths are easy and mostly downhill, with short steep sections.
The spring itself is a short, steep climb above the hut and is not part of this walk. The river is very cold and fast: keep off the wet rocks at the gorges.
The free summer bus between Bovec, the source and Kranjska Gora ran from 1 June to 30 September in 2026, so out of season you need two cars or a taxi. The walk can be shortened at Na Logu or at Soča village, both on the valley road.
