The walk
From the reserve car park at the south entrance, 1 km from Scopello, the coast path passes through a short tunnel and runs north above the sea, past Punta della Capreria and its nature museum, the manna museum at Punta Leone, and the coves of Cala della Disa and Cala Berretta. This walk turns above Cala dell'Uzzo; the coast path goes on north to the Tonnarella dell'Uzzo and the north entrance. Return the same way.
It is 7.8 km there and back with 191 m of ascent; allow about 2½ hours. The grade is Easy: a good, clear path with short climbs and descents between the coves.
Entry to the reserve costs €5 (reduced €3; under 8 free), paid electronically only, and the ticket must be kept for the whole visit. The reserve is open every day from 7:00 to 19:00. Drinking water is found only at Cala del Varo in summer and at the farm museum; the wells and troughs are not drinkable. A large fire burned through the reserve in July 2025; all its paths have reopened, but expect bare slopes in places. The reserve was Sicily's first, set up in 1981 after a march of some 3,000 people in 1980 stopped a coast road.
The car park at the south entrance is free. Wear walking shoes: the reserve asks visitors not to come in sandals.
