The walk
The walk starts from the pay car park at the edge of the national park in Sassnitz, about a kilometre from the station. The path, marked white-blue-white, runs north through beech forest along the top of the chalk cliffs. It passes the viewpoints at the Wissower Klinken and the Ernst-Moritz-Arndt-Sicht, drops into the ravine of the Kieler Bach and climbs out again, and comes at last to the Victoria-Sicht, a railed ledge with the classic view of the Königsstuhl, a chalk headland 118 m above the Baltic. The line ends at the bus stop by the national park centre.
It is 8.9 km one way with 288 m of ascent; allow about 3 hours. The grade is Easy, though the path rises and falls over roots and steps the whole way.
The forest is part of a UNESCO World Heritage site. The Victoria-Sicht is free. The Königsstuhl itself is reached only by the skywalk of the national park centre, which cost €14 in 2026.
The cliffs fall without warning: there were two large falls in 2026. Keep to the marked path and back from the edge, and stay off the beach below, where the park warns of danger to life. The steps down to the shore at the Königsstuhl have been closed since 2016. Bus 23 runs back to Sassnitz. Dogs on a lead.
