The walk
From the car park at Spranget, follow the gravel road, closed to cars, for 6 km to Rondvassbu at the south end of Rondvatnet. From the lodge the path climbs steeply east by Rondholet to the junction with the path to Rondslottet, and then over stone and boulders to the top of Storronden, 2,138 m. In clear weather the view reaches as far as Jotunheimen. Return the same way.
It is 21.5 km there and back with 1,059 m of ascent; allow about 8½ hours. The grade is Strenuous: a long day, with a climb of almost 1,000 m from the lodge on rough, stony ground.
DNT Oslo og Omegn gives the season as May to October and suggests a night at Rondvassbu, which is open from mid-June to mid-September, to split the day. Do not go up in snow, ice or fog.
The road from Mysusæter to Spranget has a 10 kr toll, and from 5 July 2026 parking at Spranget is not allowed between 11 pm and 6 am.
