The walk
From the bus stop by the State War Memorial, walk down past the lookouts on the edge of Mount Eliza, with views over the Swan River and the city. Enter the Western Australian Botanic Garden and follow the Lotterywest Federation Walkway, which crosses a glass and steel arch through the canopy of tall eucalypts. A short stretch of the Law Walk follows the escarpment before the path climbs back through the garden. Go round the boardwalks of the bushland nature trail, then return through the garden to the start.
It is 3.4 km round with 60 m of ascent; allow about an hour. The grade is Easy: paved paths and boardwalks with gentle slopes. The Federation Walkway is wheelchair accessible, though the arch may need some help.
Jogging, bikes, scooters, dogs and smoking are not allowed on the Federation Walkway. Free guided walks leave from outside Aspects of Kings Park at 10 am and 1 pm every day. Mount Eliza is also known by its Noongar names, Kaarta Gar-up and Mooro Katta.
Buses, including the free city bus, stop by the State War Memorial. From the city centre the park can also be reached on foot by the steps of Jacob's Ladder.
