The walk

From the car park by the church in Robertville, follow the waymarks of loop 19 down the Rue du Barrage and by a forest path to the shore. A path leads along the water, over a wooden footbridge, and up to the road at the dam. Cross the dam, the start of the Warche gorge, then follow forest paths along the south side of the lake, over the Poncé brook and back to the water. Pass the lakeside hotel, cross the lake on the road bridge of Haelen, and return along the shore by the bathing area and up the Route des Bains to Robertville.

It is 6 km round with 44 m of ascent; allow about 1½ hours. The grade is Easy: shore paths, forest tracks and some road, with short ups and downs.

The stretches on the dam road and across the Pont de Haelen carry traffic. From October to the end of January, hunts can close forest paths in the East Cantons on set days: the walking planner on ostbelgien.eu shows closures by date, and signs at the forest edge must be obeyed.

The car park by the church in Robertville is free. There is no railway station nearby.
