The walk

From the free car park by the information centre of the Parque Municipal Llao Llao, walk 300 m along the road to the trailhead signed for Villa Tacul and Cerro Llao Llao. The path climbs gently through coihue and cypress forest. After about 2 km, turn left at the signed junction and climb more steeply past a telecommunications mast to the lookout near the top. It looks over the Llao Llao peninsula and hotel, Lago Moreno, the Brazo Tristeza of Nahuel Huapi and Cerro Capilla. Return the same way.

It is 5.8 km there and back with 209 m of ascent; allow about 2 hours. The grade is Easy: a good forest path, steeper near the top.

You must register and pay to enter the park, online or with the QR code at the entrance, and the municipality keeps it closed on windy days. Take care at the lookout, which has steep drops, and on the busy road to the trailhead.

Bus line 20 from Bariloche stops at Puerto Pañuelo, about 1 km before the information centre.
