The walk

Start at the Casas de Irati car park. Visit Navarra's Errekaidorra route runs on forest tracks and paths through the Irati Forest to the Cubo waterfall, passing a series of open-air points about the old uses of the forest, and comes back by the river to Casas de Irati.

It is 9.8 km round with 226 m of ascent, the height difference Visit Navarra gives for the route (it gives the length as 10.04 km); allow about 3 hours. The grade is Moderate on our count, because the time comes to just over three hours, while Visit Navarra rates the route low in difficulty (Baja). It warns that in rainy weather some stretches can be muddy.

Visit Navarra says a maintenance fee ('tasa de mantenimiento') is paid in high season to enter the forest by this access: its 2026 price sheet lists 7 euros for a car. The Salazar valley's page on its 2023 access protocol, drawn up by the valley councils of Aezkoa and Salazar with others, says the road to Casas de Irati was to be cut for a time when the car parks were full, on the Pilar holiday weekend and three Saturdays that year, with Policía Foral, rangers and tourist-information services in charge; look for this year's notice. Irati Basoa, the Salazar valley council's company, says Casas de Irati is closed in winter and gives no dates, and Visit Navarra says the access road, the NA-2012 from Ochagavía, may be closed then too, with a link to the road-status page.

Casas de Irati has an information point, guards, a car park, a picnic area, a bar-restaurant and bicycle hire. No bus to Casas de Irati was found on an official page.
