The walk

From the Cala Galdana - Platja bus stop, follow the Camí de Cavalls, Menorca's coastal path, west by path to Cala Macarella and on to Cala Macarelleta. The Camí de Cavalls site says Macarella and Macarelleta are probably two of the most photographed and best known beaches of Menorca. Return the same way.

It is 6.1 km there and back with 148 m of ascent; allow about 2 hours. The grade is Easy; the Camí de Cavalls site marks most of the stage Easy and the stretch around Macarella Medium. This is the eastern part of stage 13 of the Camí de Cavalls, from Cala en Turqueta to Cala Galdana, which the Consell Insular de Menorca gives as 6.38 km with 172 m of ascent and 143 m of descent.

The Camí de Cavalls good-practice guide asks walkers to stay on the marked paths, to close gates behind them and to take their litter with them, and the Camí de Cavalls rules of use allow dogs on a lead with an identification tag. The Menorca tourist board's site (menorca.es) says municipal ordinances forbid pets on the beaches, that private vehicles are not allowed into the Macarella area in summer and that a bus links Ciutadella and Macarella every day, holidays included; it gives no dates for the 2026 season. The vehicle ban and the bus are about getting to Macarella from Ciutadella, not about a walk from Cala Galdana (our reading); the pets rule is about the beaches.

The Camí de Cavalls site says there are two resorts around Cala Galdana beach with a full range of amenities. OpenStreetMap marks the bus stop 'Cala Galdana - Platja'; look up the current bus timetable before you go.
