The walk

From the car park by the Lough Neagh Discovery Centre, take the path round the top of the peninsula and follow the West Shore Walk south through the woodland above the lough. At the south-west corner it joins the reserve's southern path, which runs east along Kinnego Bay past the bird hides to Kinnego Marina. The way back uses the same path and a stretch of the reserve's service road, then goes up the east side of the peninsula past the wildlife garden to the Discovery Centre.

It is 4.6 km round with 10 m of ascent; allow about 1 hour. The grade is Easy: level paths with about a fifth of the way on the service road.

DAERA lists five miles of footpath across the reserve and bird-watching hides over the lough, and says the sheltered bays hold large numbers of wintering wildfowl, especially diving ducks, with whooper and Bewick's swans on the neighbouring fields. Visit Armagh says admission is free. It lists winter opening as 9 am to 6 pm and summer opening as 9 am to up to 9 pm, with the summer closing time unclear on its page, so check the times before a late walk. The Lough Neagh Discovery Centre is open 9 am to 5 pm on weekdays and 10 am to 5 pm at weekends, closing later from April to September.

OpenStreetMap tags the car park beside the centre as free. DAERA lists a Loughside café, a craft centre and a shop at the centre.
