The walk
Start at the Prats Sobirans car park, past the Arinsal dam tunnel, and take the Camí al Comapedrosa (GR11): a track at first, then a mountain path that climbs steadily up the Comapedrosa valley. After about 3.9 km it reaches the Refugi de Comapedrosa, a stone hut at about 2,260 m, and the path runs on for about 200 m to Estany de les Truites. Return the same way.
It is 8.1 km out and back with 702 m of ascent; allow about 4¾ hours. The grade is Moderate: a steady climb on a well-worn path mapped as mountain hiking, with excellent trail visibility. The park describes the refuge path as one of the most visited routes in the Principality; a signpost at the Carboneres path, about 1.3 km up, gives the refuge as 2 hours away.
The park's 2026 management plan bans swimming in all its lakes, Estany de les Truites included, and bicycles are not permitted anywhere in it; dogs must be on a lead, fires are forbidden and you should stay on the paths. The park warns of avalanche risk in winter and spring. Its page says the staffed refuge is open from June to September, so it may be shut now. Visit Andorra advises routes above 1,700 m between the end of June and the end of September.
The park says Prats Sobirans is a paid car park (no price given) of about 50 spaces, shut in winter, and that free spaces lie beside the information booth before the tunnel. Line L5 from Andorra la Vella to Arinsal ends at the Aparcament d'Arinsal stop, about 200 m from the trailhead (the Govern's September 2026 bus booklet; timetables at bus.ad).
