The walk
From the car park at Planina Blato, follow the cart track west through the forest to Planina pri Jezeru, where herders' huts stand round a small lake. Climb on to the wide pasture of Dedno polje, pass the edge of Planina Ovčarija and take the easier path by Prode into the Triglav Lakes Valley. It comes out by Dvojno jezero, the Double Lake, below long screes, and reaches the Koča pri Triglavskih jezerih hut at 1,685 m. Return the same way. This route avoids the steep cabled descent from Štapce that some walkers use.
It is 17.3 km there and back with 841 m of ascent; allow about 6½ hours. The grade is Hard: a long day on stony tracks and mountain paths, steep in places, with no protected sections.
Snow lies by the lakes into early summer and comes back in autumn, and the steep slopes crossed before Planina pri Jezeru are dangerous when icy. The huts on the way open only in the summer season, so outside it carry food and water and be ready to turn back.
The forest road from Stara Fužina to Planina Blato has a gate and a charge of €20 a day all year, paid at the machine on the way out, and it closes in winter when unsafe. In summer an organised bus from the Bohinj villages runs instead.
