The walk

From Ribčev Laz at the east end of Lake Bohinj, follow the track along the quiet north shore under the steep slopes of Pršivec to Ukanc at the west end. Carry on beside the Savica river to Koča pri Savici, then climb the stepped path through the forest to the viewpoint opposite the Savica waterfall, which falls 78 m in two streams from a cave in the Komarča cliff. Return to Ukanc and walk back along the south shore on the lakeside path, with views across the water to the Julian Alps.

It is 18.1 km round with 336 m of ascent; allow about 5½ hours. The grade is Moderate: level shore paths and tracks, then a steep stepped path up to the falls.

The path to the falls has a ticket point: €4 for adults in 2026, children free, open from 9:00 to 17:00 in October and 9:00 to 16:00 in November and December. It closes in heavy rain, snow, ice or high water, when the access path is blocked. The falls are in Triglav National Park, where the strictest protection applies: keep to the paths.

Ribčev Laz has pay car parks and buses from Bled. Buses run daily to Ukanc, which can shorten the walk.
