The walk

From the Scroll of Fire (מגילת האש), two bronze scrolls about 8 m high in KKL's Martyrs' Forest, follow the green-marked Martyrs' Trail west past the old cisterns and press stones of Khirbet Midrag and down through the pines to the Yahadut Teiman picnic site. Cross Route 395 with care and walk the short way out to the viewpoint over the deep gorge of Nahal Kesalon, which cuts through the Judean hills towards the coastal plain. Return the same way, uphill all the way back to the memorial.

It is 4.3 km there and back with 167 m of ascent; allow about 1½ hours. The grade is Easy: a forest path, downhill on the way out and a steady climb back.

KKL has closed the steep part of the Martyrs' Trail below the viewpoint, down to the B'nai B'rith Cave, so turn back at the viewpoint; INPA has also closed blue trail 9363 to the south, so stay on the green. Large parts of the forest burnt in August 2021 and are growing back, so there is little shade in places: carry water. Narcissus and cyclamen flower here in winter.

Entry is free. Tnufa bus 183 from Jerusalem ends in Kesalon, about 270 m from the memorial, on weekdays; by car, take the narrow road from Route 395 near Ramat Raziel.
