The walk
From the car park by the Naejangsan visitor centre, pass the one-pillar gate and walk the avenue of maples to Naejangsa, the temple in the bowl of the mountains of Naejangsan (내장산). Beyond the temple, turn up the Wonjeok valley on the KNPS nature trail, a gentle path through the woods beside the stream to the small hermitage of Wonjeogam. The path then crosses the hillside on a gentler line, over a footbridge, to Byeongnyeonam, a hermitage on a terrace beneath the cliffs of Seoraebong, and drops back down to the gate.
It is 3.9 km round with 150 m of ascent; allow about 1½ hours. The grade is Easy: earth and stone paths with a few steps.
From late October to mid-November, when the maples turn, Naejangsan is one of the busiest parks in Korea: come early or on a weekday, and expect shuttle buses from the outer car parks. Keep to the signed paths; OSM shows unofficial paths nearby, which are closed. Trails can be entered until 16:00 from April to October and 15:00 in winter.
Buses run from Jeongeup to the park; the KNPS car parks charge 4,000 won a day for a car on weekdays and 5,000 won at weekends and in the busy seasons.
