The walk

The walk starts from the car park at the end of the minor road signed to Neist Point, west of Glendale. A concrete path with steps drops steeply down the cliff to the narrow neck of the headland, then climbs and runs out along the grassy point, past the cliffs on its northern side, to the lighthouse at its tip. The return is the same way, including the climb back up the steps to the car park.

It is 2.5 km with 128 m of ascent; allow about 1 hour. The grade is Easy: short, on a good path, but with a steep climb back up.

The cliffs are unfenced, so keep to the path and take care away from it, especially in wind. The point looks across the Little Minch to the Outer Hebrides, and is a fine place to watch the sunset. Allow time to linger at the lighthouse and on the cliffs of the point.

Parking is free. There is no station on Skye.
