The walk

From Ledaig car park, walk along Tobermory's brightly painted main street to the pier. Behind the building beside the RNLI shop, a path slopes up through the trees. Past an old cannon emplacement it goes through a gate and runs through the woods above the shore, with views over the water. Keep right on the main path at a junction. The lighthouse comes into view; a short detour leads to a memorial that has a view indicator. Walk past the cottage to the lighthouse gate, then return the same way.

It is 5.3 km with 139 m of ascent; allow about 1¾ hours. The grade is Easy: a good path with a little up and down.

The path has been much improved, and there is a donation box towards its upkeep. The rocks near the lighthouse are a good place to watch for otters. A rougher, muddy return above the woods is possible but is not part of this walk.

Ledaig car park is free and has toilets. Buses run to Tobermory.
