The walk
From the Ardmore forest car park off the Glengorm road, walk along the straight track past a gate and over a low bealach, with glimpses of Ardnamurchan ahead. Keep left at the first junction, signed for Glengorm, then turn right for the Shore Walk, past the ruined settlement of Penalbanach. The path drops towards Ardmore Bay, where a wildlife hide looks over the water. Follow the shore path, boggy in places, then head inland past the ruined houses of Ardmore village and climb on a good path to a track, which leads back to the outward route and the car park.
It is 7.3 km with 150 m of ascent; allow about 2¼ hours. The grade is Easy: good tracks, with short boggy stretches near the shore.
Walkhighlands warns that the paths near the shore are boggy and the burns are unbridged, which may be hard going after heavy rain, and that paths can be overgrown in summer. Otters use the bay but are hard to see. In very clear weather you can see Skye, Rum, Muck, Coll and Tiree.
Park in the Forestry and Land Scotland car park at Ardmore. There is no public transport to the start.
