The walk
From Sfazù, on the Bernina pass road above Poschiavo, a track climbs east into the Val da Camp, a nature reserve closed to private cars. It rises through larch and pine past the hamlet of Plansena to Lungacqua and Rifugio Saoseo. A path continues to the Lagh da Saoseo, famous for its deep blue and green water, then climbs to the larger Lagh da Val Viola. The way back drops past the restaurant at Alpe Campo and down the valley to Sfazù.
It is 12.8 km round with 543 m of ascent; allow about 4½ hours. The grade is Moderate: forest tracks and mountain paths, with a long, steady climb up the valley.
A small PostBus runs up the valley road from about the end of May to the end of October; seats must be booked at least an hour ahead, and it can shorten the walk a great deal. Snow can close the upper valley from late autumn. In the reserve, keep to the paths.
Sfazù is a PostBus stop on the Bernina road between Poschiavo and the pass, with a paid car park.
