The walk
From Fisterra bus station our line follows the road up to the lighthouse, as the Xunta's stage does, past the church of Santa María das Areas; the Xunta calls the lighthouse the km 0 of the Way of Saint James. Our line follows a footway beside the road for most of the way. Return the same way.
It is 6.6 km there and back with 123 m of ascent; allow about 2 hours. The Xunta gives the section from Fisterra to the lighthouse as 3.3 km one way, of medium difficulty, in 50 minutes. The grade is Easy on our count.
Turismo de Galicia says a road leads directly to the lighthouse and is well signposted.
The Xunta's page on getting to the Camino lists buses from Fisterra bus station (Avenida Galicia) to Santiago de Compostela, run by Monbus, five a day from Monday to Friday, four on Saturdays and three on Sundays, taking about 2 h 40, and buses to A Coruña run by Autocares Vázquez.
