The walk

From Parking Vlaktedreef at the arboretum gateway in Tervuren, follow the blue-marked wooden posts of the Flossendelle walk into the Zoniënwoud. The loop runs between Jezus-Eik and Tervuren, through small valleys holding ponds called 'flossen' and over plateaus of tall trees, and comes within about 200 m of Jezus-Eik, a village that grew up around a statue of Our Lady at an old oak. One of the ponds near the Flossenweg is partly covered with yellow iris.

It is 6.8 km round with 105 m of ascent; allow about 2 hours; the grade is Easy: forest tracks, 64% unpaved and 36% paved by the tourist board's count, with ups and downs between the valleys and the plateaus. The ascent is the 105 m Toerisme Vlaams-Brabant gives for the walk; our own height data (54 m) probably under-read the small valleys.

The Zoniënwoud is managed by the Agentschap voor Natuur en Bos, which says dogs must be on a lead and stay on the paths except in the marked dog zones; the forest has many of them.

The walk starts at Parking Vlaktedreef at the arboretum gateway, Tervuren, which is marked free on OpenStreetMap.
