The walk

From Haputale railway station the way leaves by the path beside the line and the Keppetipola-Boralande-Haputale road, then follows lanes and tracks west through the tea to the Thomas Seat viewpoint (as OpenStreetMap names it), about 4.0 km from the start. It goes on by track and the Adisham Bungalow Road to the car park below the bungalow's gate, 5.5 km from the start. The bungalow is now a monastery, and Uva Tourism says Pidurutalagala, Kandapola, Ambewela, Boralanda and Diyatalawa can be seen from it. The way back is the direct line, 4.0 km, without the Thomas Seat detour.

It is 9.5 km round with 382 m of ascent by the router's heights, which count every rise and fall of the tracks; allow about 3 hours. The grade is Moderate on the time formula, though 42 per cent of the line is road or lane and the going underfoot is easy.

Adisham Bungalow is open to the public only on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays (Uva Tourism): on other days the walk ends at the gate. About 700 m of the line each way is on the Keppetipola-Boralande-Haputale road, a main road: walk facing the traffic. The tracks are slippery after rain. The FCDO warns of venomous snakes and insects in many parts of the country, and Uva Tourism's safety tips advise telling someone your plans if you go into remote areas.

The walk starts at Haputale railway station, on the Badulla line. OpenStreetMap shows a charged car park outside the gate; we found no official page giving a charge or the visiting hours.
