The walk
From the car park at Passo Tre Croci, 1,805 m, on the road from Cortina to Misurina, path 215 starts by the hotel and heads south through the forest. It then works round the steep flanks of the Sorapis group: across a scree slope, up a rocky spur by a metal ladder, along a short exposed ledge with a fixed rope, and up some artificial steps, to Rifugio Vandelli, 1,928 m. The Lago di Sorapis, 1,923 m, lies just beyond the hut, under the spire of the Dito di Dio. Return the same way.
It is 12.5 km there and back with 319 m of ascent; allow about 4 hours. The grade is Hard, for the exposed stretches rather than the climb: the ledge and the ladder need a steady head and sure feet.
The roped ledge is often slippery when wet, and snow or ice makes it dangerous. The lake stays frozen until early summer. Rifugio Vandelli closed on 1 October 2026 and reopens on 20 June 2027, so outside summer there is no shelter. Swimming and camping at the lake are not allowed.
Buses between Cortina and Misurina stop at Passo Tre Croci. The hut gives 1 hour 45 minutes to 2 hours 30 each way.
